Fimer (ABB) Overview – Company History

Arturo Sottocorno created Fimer S.p.A in 1942 as a welding equipment producer. Fimer’s headquarters are in Vimercate, which is in Italy. Solar and e-mobility will be Fimer’s key business segments in 2022. Fimer employs over 1100 people worldwide, with direct operations in 26 countries across five continents. Fimer is able to maintain a distribution network of over 100 countries because to its three manufacturing facilities and three research and development centers.

Fimer’s solar branch was founded in 2007 and has since evolved to become the world’s fourth largest provider of solar inverters. Fimer completed the acquisition and integration of ABB’s inverter division in March of 2020. Costa Rica is home to this ABB inverter installation. Because of the country’s unique climate and location, renewable energy sources provide for nearly all of the country’s energy needs. In recent years, renewable energy sources such as hydro, solar, geothermal, and wind have gained popularity.

Costa Rica was able to supply 100 percent of the country’s electricity from renewable sources throughout most of 2018. It is the country’s goal to generate all of its electricity from renewable sources.
