ET Solar – Company Overview and History

Jiankai Sunshine New Energy Technology (previously Zhongsheng Sunshine New Energy Technology) founded ET Solar in 2005 as a trading name. ET Solar is primarily a solar panel manufacturer with headquarters in Nanjing, China, and is wholly controlled by the Chinese government.

ET Solar is a smaller-scale Chinese solar panel company with about 3000 employees and an estimated annual production capacity of 1.7GW.

This company is vertically integrated, which means they manufacture their solar panels totally in-house from raw materials. They don’t rely on any other suppliers, making them less exposed to supply disruptions and allowing them to maintain control over component quality.

What is the difference between a Bloomberg Tier 1 Solar Panel and a Bloomberg Tier 2 Solar Panel?

Bloomberg’s infamous tier 1 designation is in no way indicative of the quality of solar panels. It’s just an assessment of the manufacturer’s bankability based on publicly available financial data. If the company is a significant, well-known manufacturer, this should offer you an indication.

ET Solar panels are rated Tier 1 by Bloomberg.

The complete list of Bloomberg Tier 1 Solar Panels may be found here.

What is the top performer at PV Evolution Labs?

PV Evolution Labs independently tests solar panel dependability with the help of DNV GL. The tests are completely voluntary, with solar panel producers paying to take part. This testing procedure is well-known around the world, and it accurately reflects the solar panel’s performance.

In PV Evolution Labs’ 2021 report, ET Solar made its first appearance as a high performer. They were one of the few companies with top-performing panels in six of the six annual tests, which is impressive.

Why is it important to have an office in Australia?

Most solar panel manufacturers who enter the Australian market focus on setting up distribution channels first, then on customer service. As a result, many disgruntled consumers are attempting to contact Chinese headquarters in order to claim their 10-year product warranty.

Relying on your solar installer isn’t always a good idea, as many residential solar installers (including the big ones) have gone out of business before the systems they install have even been installed. There is currently no ET Solar office in Australia.

Solar Panels from ET are now available in Australia.

The Clean Energy Council has authorized 40 ET solar panels for the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme – Australia’s home solar rebate scheme (listed under the name ET Solar New Energy Co Ltd). However, at the time of writing, the following three solar panel models were the only ones available:

Solar Panels Elite Mono

There are 72 monocrystalline solar cells in the ETM380-72H. In comparison to polycrystalline solar cells, monocrystalline solar cells have higher efficiency.

The rated module efficiency is 19.6%, which is close to the current solar module technology average. Elite Mono solar panels have a competitive edge in that their sophisticated designs reach a high voltage of 1500VDC, allowing more solar panels to be linked in one string.

This panel’s wattage ranges from 360W to 385W, depending on the model.

Solar Panels Elite Poly

There are 72 solar cells in the ETP340-72H, which use polycrystalline solar technology. Although polycrystalline technology is recognized to be cost-effective, it is not as efficient as monocrystalline technology. As a result, the rated module efficiency is 17.5 percent, which is poor in comparison to most market possibilities.

This type has an anti-reflective coating that makes it harder for dirt to attach to the panels and makes rain cleaning easier.

This panel’s wattage ranges from 340W to 345W, depending on the model.

Solar Panels Elite Plus

144 monocrystalline solar cells with half-cut solar technology make up the ETM400-144BL. Solar panels with half-cut solar cells are already commonplace in the industry because they boost efficiency while reducing surface area.

The Elite Plus series would be used in a business solar system because it is a larger panel (2m by 1m).

The rated module efficiency is 19.9%, which we believe is higher than the average. Because of the paralleling circuit architecture and half-cut solar cells, this type of panel can withstand more shade.

Depending on the model, the power range for this panel is 400W to 410W.

ET Solar’s Guarantee

A product and performance guarantee is included with solar panels. The product warranty, which is normally 10 years for most solar panel manufacturers, is designed to cover manufacturing flaws in the panel that result in damage or malfunction. All ET Solar panels come with a 10-year standard product warranty, which is comparable to what the solar panel market would expect.

After 25 years, the performance warranty ensures a set level of output for the life of the panel, usually 80-82 percent of the nameplate output. ET Solar offers a 25-year performance warranty on all of its products, with a guaranteed output of 80.7 percent (for polycrystalline modules) and 80.68 percent (for monocrystalline modules) after that time, putting them above the market’s minimal expectations.

The primary problem with ET Solar’s warranty for Australian consumers is that they have no staff, office, or website in Australia. For you to have a reasonable possibility of establishing a claim, your installer or their distributor would have to function as a middleman between their Chinese factory and you, which isn’t ideal.

Pros and Cons of ET Solar Panels

  • Bloomberg New Energy named PV Evolution Labs Tier 1 Solar Company as a top-performing solar panel.
  • On their website, including an Australian address (no contact number)

In comparison to other Chinese brands, there is a lower use of utility-scale projects.

  • There is no premium product with a 25-year warranty.

Should I invest in ET Solar Panels?

The short answer is that we do not recommend purchasing ET Solar panels until they open an office in Australia and develop a local warranty claim mechanism. Given the number of solar installations that have gone out of business in the last decade, it’s critical to be sure you have direct recourse with the manufacturer if something goes wrong. There’s no need to take a chance when there are enough possibilities from Chinese manufacturers with an Australian office (e.g. Trina, Jinko, or Suntech).

However, we were impressed that PV Evolution Labs named ET Solar’s larger utility-scale solar panels as a high performer in all six testing categories.

An example of a commercial solar project from ET

The single solar project in the Australian market featured on ET Solar’s website is a commercial rooftop installation in South Australia with a rated output of 29.63kW.

This installation in Langhorne Creek, South Australia, uses the ET Solar PV module ET-M572190BB.
