EGing Overview – Company History

EGing PV is a vertically integrated solar cell and solar panel company based in Changzhou, China. The company was first listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2003 (SHA: 600537) and today has a market capitalization of 4.62 billion Chinese yen. They were just rated a Tier 1 supplier in Bloomberg’s rankings, indicating that they are a trustworthy partner.

The company’s sole manufacturing site in Changzhou has a capacity of about 2GW of yearly solar panel production. Despite the fact that EGing sells solar panels in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, this is their principal headquarters and lone office space.

What is the top performer at PV Evolution Labs?

PV Evolution Labs, in collaboration with DNV GL, conducts an annual independent test of solar panel reliability. The tests are completely voluntary, with solar panel producers paying to take part. This testing procedure is well-known around the world, and it accurately reflects the solar panel’s performance.

EGing isn’t recognized as a Top Performer, and it’s unclear whether they took part in the test or not.

Why is it important to have an office in Australia?

Most solar panel manufacturers who enter the Australian market focus on setting up distribution channels first, then on customer service. As a result, many disgruntled consumers are attempting to contact Chinese headquarters in order to claim their 10-year product warranty.

Relying on your solar installation isn’t always a good idea, as over 700 home solar installers (including the big ones) have gone out of business since 2011.

The Clean Energy Council (listed under the corporate name Changzhou EGing Photovoltaic Technology Co Ltd) has authorized the majority of EGing solar panels for the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme — Australia’s home solar rebate scheme.

Monocrystalline and polycrystalline variants of Eging’s Half-Cut “HC” Series are available. Also available in a variety of sizes, with the larger 72-cell panels being better suited to commercial uses. Half-cut technology involves breaking a cell into two pieces, which reduces resistance and increases the panels’ shading resistance.

Monocrystalline panels are more efficient than polycrystalline panels, with the most efficient 60 Cell mono panel providing 325W of power with a maximum efficiency of 19.6%.

On the 60 cell poly 280W solar panel, this reduces to a less spectacular 16.9%. As a result, it’s critical to determine where the panel you’ve been quoted falls in this range.

EGing also offers an “All Black” option for the 60 cell monocrystalline panels, which provides an aesthetically acceptable choice for customers with road-facing roofspace.

EGing ‘Traditional’ Solar Panels

72-Cell Half-cut Mono Module from EGing High-Efficiency Solar Panels The ‘High Efficiency’ HE series, which uses UNSW-developed PERC technology, achieves maximum efficiency of 20.58 percent for their 60 cells 375W solar panel.

The modules have somewhat larger solar cells than its other series, allowing each solar panel to have a greater overall watt rating. The modules are rated for a maximum hail load of 2.5cm ice with a velocity of 23m/s, according to the manufacturer.

This solar panel is not featured in their products area, but we can see from the Clean Energy Council’s certified modules that they have both 60 cell and 72 cell modules, as well as data sheets in their download center with the watt ratings listed below.

Warranty Policies for Australian Customers at EGing

EGing currently offers a 15-year product guarantee and a 25-year performance warranty on its panels sold in Australia as of May 1, 2021. The policy for the performance warranty specifies the linear power output degradation that is covered for each of the various panel types (i.e. Polycrystalline or Monocrystalline, single glass or double glass modules).

To have a decent chance of getting EGing to honor your warranty, have your installer or an “authorized dealer” file the claim on your behalf. You must make “an instant notification directly to EGing PV” if they are out of business. EGing does not have an Australian office and only displays Chinese phone numbers on its website.

In response to a previous version of this review, EGing has updated its warranty policy and made several beneficial modifications, as well as created an Australian website with the opportunity to file a warranty claim online.

“In the event of a replacement, the customer can send the items back to EGing PV’s authorized dealers or a nominated address in Australia after obtaining written communication from EGing PV requesting the return of the device for warranty claim.” EGing necessitates that the defeated goods be insured and well wrapped for transportation. The customer will be reimbursed for the shipping and any reasonable costs. Following EGing’s approval, EGing PV will provide all essential services and assistance, as well as a quick response from the moment a claim is filed to the time it is settled.

Although EGing does not have an Australian office, it looks that you could mail the panels to Australia to be evaluated for replacement – despite the fact that an Australian address or authorized dealer is not listed in their guarantee contract or on their Australian website. Should I Invest in EGing Solar Panels?

The quick answer is that it’s unlikely. EGing panels are quite inexpensive in comparison to their Australian equivalents, but this comes at a cost. This expense is primarily covered by their limited warranty coverage, which, as it is now, would be a difficult process for a consumer to navigate. Many of EGing’s solar panels sold in Australia use older technology and are less efficient than their equivalents, so it’s crucial to check the technical specs of any solar panel you’re considering.
