Garden/landscape Solar lights problem?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I bought some Malibu landscape solar lights. I installed them yesterday, and they were working in the evening. Today it rained and some of them stopped working. Or better they are flickering. Light goes on and off.
Could the rain have effected the lights or do they still need more time to charge?
Please help because I am ready to return them. So frustrated.

they may need more time to charge. check that all the batteries are firmly in place. you can try to charge them right under a light in the house for a day. mine took a really good sunny day before they really took off, but when i got up at 5 am and it was just starting to get light, they were STILL on! now that its fall, though, none of them are on for more that a couple hours after dark

Do solar landscape lights have an on/off switch?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I am talking about the low end pathway lights that you might get from walmart… do they have an on/off switch, or do they ALWAYS come on at night?

you can find some with an on/off switch but a majority of them don’t. I think you’ll find that the ones with a switch will be just a bit higher in price. All solar lights do have a photo cell though, when the sun sets the lights will turn on the light for as long as the batteries have enough power to run them.

I think it’s a shame that more people don’t use the better quality hard wired landscape lights. The light out put is so much better and if you notice the color of the LED light dulls and changes the color of what ever it is trying to light (usually only a 1 foot circle around the light fixture). It’s more of an illusion of light, you can see the light is on but they don’t really light anything.

Well, best of luck

what is the best solar powered landscape light?

I want to know what will provide excellent spotlighting for the landscape and will hold full charge providing great lighting throughout the night. Also what is easy to install. I want the most for my money

NONE ! Sorry to put it that way but there is no such thing a a good solar landscape light. Even though other will probably chime in saying they have some they like. You need to go with a 12 volt system which you can install yourself or the 120 volt which you will need an electrician.
