where can I find a small DC to AC transformer to convert lights for use with solar panels?
Thursday, September 24th, 2009
I’d like to have Christmas holiday lights on my gate but the distance is far, so would like to convert lights for use with solar collectors. Any ideas and/or instructions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Here is a top of the line brand for about 30 bucks.

They are everywhere and of hundreds of brands. Cheapies to high dollar brands. I have bought a few of the cheap inverters before for about the same price as the good brand names. I really think you should get a little better brand then a walmart or kmart brand. Or you will just be buying a new one every few months to replace the cheapie that just quit working like a light bulb that burnt out with no warning.

do you still have to paty an electricity bill for them?
where can i get them? (like a local store like home depot)
how do they work
do they save you money?
No a regular home improvement place probably won’t sell them and no there is no electricity involved so you don’t pay anything. Look online for them. They cost much more than regular lights and so much more you probably won’t save money.
Will my new solar Christmas light strand work on an indoor tree?

I just purchased these (in the spirit of "An Inconvenient Truth"!) and they do indeed work outside, where the solar box collects direct sunlight during the day. But will sunlight through window glass be enough to power the strand? I’d like to use indoors on a large ficus tree. Thanks for any help!
it should work try it
how can I make my own solar christmas light string?

can I use a solar panel that might be purchased for landscape lights and then somehow wire christmas lights to it instead?
I doubt it. These use the panels to charge a battery. They disperse to a low energy bulb. Your strings of lights are for 120vac i am sure and will drain the batteries fairly quickly.
You would have to go large scale solar panels with large battery packs and a converter. Expensive.
