Could this idea save American service members and Iraqi and Afghan military and civilian lives?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Strong box with cameras with nightvision mounted on them for 360 degree views wireless transmissions of video signals in powered by batteries and a solar panels placed on poles or on the tops of buildings to moniter firstly those roads that have the most IEDs planted in them and working down the list in order to detect them before they harm or kill troops and civilians. Wouldn’t this also be vastly more affordible then almost all the other things tried so far and help troops make up for lack of numbers in order to better secure areas? And after US troops went home they would help the government’s of these war torn countries stay afloat better and help them make up for areas they’re lacking in. I know it sounds intrusive but streets and intersections all over america already have cameras to look for people running red lights and who knows what else and we’re not even in combat zones(which I think should be stopped). Wouldn’t this make IEDs virtually obsolete and help our allies?

Not a bad idea, but very expensive to implement. Then you have to ask how to keep the bad guys from monitoring the cameras? How do you get the bad guys to not just operate outside the range of the cameras? How do you keep the locals from stealing them? Who mans the monitors? Is it better than cameras mounted on drones?

THE QUESTION OF DESIGN
In the past two centuries, it seems that the more we have learned about the world and the universe around us, the more inconsequential we have become in the grand design of the cosmos. If we were important to God, then why weren’t we among His initial creations? Instead, we are creatures that did not appear until billions of years after the Earth’s formation. If we are the only significant life-form in the universe, then why is the universe so vast and contain so many other galaxies, stars, and — undoubtedly — planets? Why isn’t the Earth the center of our solar system? Why isn’t our solar system the nucleus of our galaxy?

Because these questions cannot be properly addressed without understanding God’s thoughts and inclinations, many agnostics do not recognize the significance of our creation. Since our very existence was supposedly derived from natural processes (as most scientists claim), there does not appear to be any real purpose in accepting the existence of a Supreme Being.

And yet, where is the Bible wrong in any of its claims about humanity? The Creation Story clearly states that God created all of creation before He made man on the Sixth Day. We were said to be God’s final creation — a fact that even science can not refute. Nowhere does the Bible ever claim that the Earth resides at the center of our universe with the sun, the planets, and the galaxies revolving around our world. Human beings may have claimed these beliefs to be true, but the Scriptures never plainly stated any of them.

Today, scientists and non-scientists agree that the Earth does not appear to be located at the center of anything. What was once heresy — the discovery that our Earth revolved around the sun — is now an accepted fact. When the heliocentric model of our solar system was introduced, it appeared that God and the holy words of the Bible were being seriously challenged by scientific knowledge. Today, it is clear that the Bible has withstood that discovery.

Perhaps a similar scientific challenge is being mounted today in the form of time. Science has determined that our universe is billions of years old. Millions of stars shined and faded away before our sun had ever emitted a single spark of light. In addition, over 4.5 billion years have passed since our Earth was created. To many believers, such a tremendous passage of time is unacceptable; consequently, they refute the science that has determined this. Our obsession with time today compels us to think in much shorter terms than billions of years. In addition, some believers feel that it makes little sense for God to wait so long before creating His most important creation.

Hundreds of years ago, it might have been heresy to believe that billions of years had passed before man was created — much as the heliocentric system was considered heresy. But the passage of such enormous amounts of time does not threaten the credibility of the Bible or the Creation Story. The exact date of the creation event is never given in the Scriptures, and long Creation Days is an acceptable — and some might argue, preferable — interpretation.

Human beings are more fixated with impertinent matters like the physical location of the Earth, and the time that has passed since the initial moment of the Big Bang. Neither of these scientific discoveries diminishes our creation. If God desired to make a fully operable universe in one hour, He could have achieved just that. But if God wishes to wait a million years, a billion years, or even a trillion years, why does that trouble us? How is time relevant to an omnipotent Being? What is important is not the passage of time but man’s special creation, and the possibility of establishing a personal relationship with God.

As science continues to unlock the secrets of our universe, it might have been anticipated that the God of the Bible would be proven away for all eternity — much like the multitude of myths and legends of ancient man. This would certainly be expected considering the size and age of our universe. But as science resolves and understands more of the mysteries of nature, something else is occurring. The evidence for a Designer or Creator of our universe is now growing.

While science and our secular culture might not have anticipated "finding" God in their eternal quest for truth and knowledge, such a discovery would only serve to confirm that which Biblical readers already knew. The wonder and complexity of nature itself reveals God’s works, and thus His existence. Two Biblical passages that speak of nature as evidence are:

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. – Psalms 19:1-2 (NIV)

"But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform

Where can I buy a solar-powered floodlight?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

I am looking for somethin solar-powered, that could be mounted outside to light up the backyard…

I saw some at walmart… but make sure to read the box to make sure it is going to throw enough light on your lawn. I bought mine a few years back, but I want to say that it was only about $10 more for a much stronger one at Home Depot. If you do a little shopping at all the stores around you that sell home repair things, you should be able to find a great product at a better price. *****HINT***** take a pad and pen with you when you go… write down the model and the make of the ones you are looking at then google them to see if there is someone that sells them cheeper. This time of year someone will be having a sale on them. For my home I am lighting a little more than 1/8 of an acre and I purchased 2 of them. Hope this helps!!! :)

Would this be a good way to fight Global Warming at the grassroots level?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Specifically, sending an email to Steven Jobs informing him that you won’t buy any more iPods until he makes a solar powered version available.

Discussion: One of the two obstacles that solar energy has in replacing fossil fuel on a large scale is the high cost and inefficiency of solar PV cells, the devices that convert sunlight (or any light) directly into electricity. It’s going to take somebody with some vision, imagination and most importantly money to make PV cells cheap enough for evey Joe and Mary Sixpack to mount them on their roof and totally disconnect their homes from the fossil fuel power grid. Congress has the money, but since it is essentially split 50-50 these days, any Federal money is going to be spent where the most readily harvestable votes are, namely in farming states where the ethanol boom is already underway.

Its true that iPods only consume a negligible amount of energy, but that would actually make it easier to reach the goal of producing a 99.99% "green" iPod that doesn’t require recharging from an inefficient recharger on the wall thats being energized by a fossil fuel power plant somewhere. Buyers of next generation iPods would be a perfect market for such a device, and once its successful, Microsoft will of course want to play "me too" and compete with Apple in the same market, pushing along the drive to reduce manufacturing costs and increase PV cell performance.

So here’s a chance for the current Disposable Income generation to be at the forefront of the Global Warming fight and with little sacrifice on their part.

Apples web site is profuse with politically correct hyperbole about how much they care about the environment, but I couldn’t find one single reference to solar energy. I think yours is a good idea because it would result in either a badly needed jump start for the solar industry or unmask Jobs as yet another double talking baby boomer billionaire.

Can a DVD or CD disc in direct sunlight start a fire?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I notice they do reflect a certain amount of light in a concentrated point but not all of it like a magnifying glass. I do remember hearing something about them starting a house fire but I don’t know if it is true and I cannot find anything on it.
The reason I ask is I want to make use of all these AOL discs I have. I want to silicon a row or so of these discs on a platform and mount the platform under my solar panel to reflect even more light into it to possibly make the solar panel work even better.

http://www.geocities.com/marketplacecity/

No, the discs are flat. They would have to be bent in in a parabolic shape to actually be able to concentrate the light on something. Being flat would be just like having a mirror against the sun.

In Greek Myth, what does Prometheus’ stealing the light from Mount Olympus n giving it to the mortals refer to?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Does it have a symbolic meaning i.e. giving birth to our sun and the solar system thus making human life possible or something?

In Greek Mythology, when human existence were in it’s primordial stages, humans had no fire because Zeus hid it when he was angered by them. Basically, Prometheus once played a trick on Zeus, making him choose between an ugly ox with delicious meat inside or a pretty meaty animal like a cow with nothing but bones inside. Zeus decided to judge by it’s cover and went for the latter. Humans took this as a sign and in the future, they would offer bones and skins to the God’s but keep the meat for themselves. So basically that’s what got Zeus upset. Prometheus loved the human race, for he saw hope and love in them. So he stole fire on a torch and gave it to the humans. When discovered Prometheus was punished. Fire is a very powerful symbol, human progress did not begin until we established fire. It opened up the door to so many things. Like cooking food, melting metals, it gives us warmth in the winter, it helps us survive. It represents the start of civilization, progressive technology, our future. Prometheus gave humanity the ability to progress and to be independent of a God.

solar panel efficiency in space?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

What, if any, improvement in efficiency per square foot or meter is realized by a solar panel in space vs. being mounted on the ground where the light is attenuated by the atmosphere?
In passing, I found a site that gives an output of .89 watts / 4 in. sq for a particular home-mounted panel.

I’m not sure on the exact numbers of solar panel efficiency, however i do know that at the radius of the Earth we should be receiving about 1000W of power per square meter.

This value is lessened by the atmosphere to a value closer to 600W per square meter on the Earth’s surface. (on a really hot day)

That’s a 40% drop in power due to the atmosphere. I’m assuming that the solar panels being in space don’t affect it’s efficiency (as in mechanically). So its power generation should increase by about 40% when in space compared with a ground based panel of the same design.

Hope this helps, Sorry it’s kinda sketchy info…

What additional items do I need to make my solar deer stand more functional?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

I have a 6′x8′ deer stand, well insulated, made of cedar, 12′ high. I already have a BP 120 watt solar panel, small charger, and a 400 watt inverter. Last year I used 3 optma blue top deep cycle/starting batteries in series, giving me 3 12 volt batteries total output of 12 volts. I have a 30 inch flat screen tv/dvd player combo, a small icebox that only draws 1.2 amps, a 750 watt microwave, 2 100 watt light bulbs, and an airconditioner/heater, which draws ac-5.0 amps, and heat 8.0 amps. Tv draws about 100 watts. Last year this system would only run tv & icebox, and run bats. down less than 3 hrs. Panel was on ground running up to charger with small ga. wire, and 20+ ft. Now panel is mounted on top, with largest wire that would fit. What rec. do you have on battery size, inverter size, and charger size? I want to be able to leave all on 24 hrs a day 7d a wk.? no lights tv or ac/heat while not there. Just Icebox while gone. I hunt 3 days at 4 hrs max which would use tv,ac/heat, microwave
I forgot to mention that I must have the power to run my dish network sat., which uses about 10 watts.

You don’t have a deer stand!!!!!!! you have a condo!!! Get real and go out and hunt like everyone else.
