I have a somewhat large flower garden about 4 acres of exotic trees and beautiful flowers and a somewhat small lake pond with lillys and ducks . it all started a few years ago with my mother and i and it consumes alot of time but it is truly breathtaking with solar lights and benches it is really beautiful. but here is my problem i had a friend that asked if her friend can take some pre wedding photos in my yard due to it is beautiful well between her the bride and the photo person i have had 14 other brides this week call to use my garden i am not to fond of people in my yard. and damage my plants. well i had the photo person also call me and say well i can always charge anyone that uses my garden for the day i thought about it and figured it could be a good idea due to it could help buy more plants and mulch that cost alot of money, but wonder how much should i charge these people to use my yard. or just give it to them as a gift and alow these people to use the garden ?

I would think long and hard about this whole idea…

1. Many wedding parties include small children which may or may not be well behaved and/or watched over well. A gorgeous garden may just be more temptation to run around in than you would like.

2. Are you prepared for the inevitable knock on the door to ask for bathroom usage, glasses of water, or I got my dress dirty can you help clean it? I would just about guarantee it’ll happen.

3. Are you prepared to give up your own use of the yard during these photo sessions? You will probably need to keep a calendar of who has requested usage time and when so that you don’t have a lot of overlap and possible arguments over placement.

These are just a few of downside examples I can think of……

EDIT: Be careful also because while many people are very trustworthy, there are those who are not, and by opening up your garden area to ‘public access’ however limited, you open up the possibilty of unscrupulous ‘wanderers’ with ‘sticky fingers’. Or people out to ‘case’ the vicinity.

If you do decide to charge and want to avoid the business licenses, etc. think about asking for checks made directly to charity chosen by you and your family. That way you also avoid income tax issues

Last week, I was talking to a friend of mine and we decided the light in the room was too bright so we bought a book and the moon is a very good source of solar energy……why dont we use this as a substitute to ethanol because money is not cheap anymore. After our discussion the sun was very dark and scholars agree that cereal is a good part of a healthy breakfast.
With regards to coca cola there should be less violence in Iraq if we can harness more snicker bars in new york. There should be laws in place to ban excessive panting which was implemented in wyoming 3 decades ago but has not prevented any loss in economic reform, shall we then serve a beer with that or slap her face and call her monkey.
The day has come for a decision to be made, will television provide anymore opportunities for time or will we fly to the moon on the back of a flying unicorn. You decide for yourself.

If I had any idea of the point you were trying to make, I would be happy to answer, alas, I am totally confused by your verbiage.

But even amongst those Indian philosophers who accepted the separation of mind and body and argued for the existence of the soul, there was considerable dedication to the scientific method and to developing the principles of deductive and inductive logic. From 1000 B.C to the 4th C A.D (also described as India’s rationalistic period) treatises in astronomy, mathematics, logic, medicine and linguistics were produced. The philosophers of the Sankhya school, the Nyaya-Vaisesika schools and early Jain and Buddhist scholars made substantial contributions to the growth of science and learning. Advances in the applied sciences like metallurgy, textile production and dyeing were also made.

In particular, the rational period produced some of the most fascinating series of debates on what constitutes the "scientific method": How does one separate our sensory perceptions from dreams and hallucinations? When does an observation of reality become accepted as fact, and as scientific truth? How should the principles of inductive and deductive logic be developed and applied? How does one evaluate a hypothesis for it’s scientific merit? What is a valid inference? What constitutes a scientific proof?

These and other questions were attacked with an unexpected intellectual vigour. As keen observers of nature and the human body, India’s early scientist/philosophers studied human sensory organs, analyzed dreams, memory and consciousness. The best of them understood dialectics in nature – they understood change, both in quantitative and qualitative terms – they even posited a proto-type of the modern atomic theory. It was this rational foundation that led to the flowering of Indian civilization.

This is borne out by the testaments of important Greek scientists and philosophers of that period. Pythagoras – the Greek mathematician and philosopher who lived in the 6th C B.C was familiar with the Upanishads and learnt his basic geometry from the Sulva Sutras. (The famous Pythagoras theorem is actually a restatement of a result already known and recorded by earlier Indian mathematicians). Later, Herodotus (father of Greek history) was to write that the Indians were the greatest nation of the age. Megasthenes – who travelled extensively through India in the 4th C. B.C also left extensive accounts that paint India in highly favorable light (for that period).

Intellectual contacts between ancient Greece and India were not insignificant. Scientific exchanges between Greece and India were mutually beneficial and helped in the development of the sciences in both nations. By the 6th C. A.D, with the help of ancient Greek and Indian texts, and through their own ingenuity, Indian astronomers made significant discoveries about planetary motion. An Indian astronomer – Aryabhata, was to become the first to describe the earth as a sphere that rotated on it’s own axis. He further postulated that it was the earth that rotated around the sun and correctly described how solar and lunar eclipses occurred.

Because astronomy required extremely complicated mathematical equations, ancient Indians also made significant advances in mathematics. Differential equations – the basis of modern calculus were in all likelihood an Indian invention (something essential in modeling planetary motions). Indian mathematicians were also the first to invent the concept of abstract infinite numbers – numbers that can only be represented through abstract mathematical formulations such as infinite series – geometric or arithmetic. They also seemed to be familiar with polynomial equations (again essential in advanced astronomy) and were the inventors of the modern numeral system (referred to as the Arabic numeral system in Europe).

The use of the decimal system and the concept of zero was essential in facilitating large astronomical calculation and allowed such 7th C mathematicians as Brahmagupta to estimate the earth’s circumferance at about 23,000 miles – (not too far off from the current calculation). It also enabled Indian astronomers to provide fairly accurate longitudes of important places in India.

The science of Ayurveda – (the ancient Indian system of healing) blossomed in this period. Medical practitioners took up the dissection of corpses, practised surgery, developed popular nutritional guides, and wrote out codes for medical procedures and patient care and diagnosis. Chemical processes associated with the dying of textiles and extraction of metals were studied and documented. The use of mordants (in dyeing) and catalysts (in metal-extraction/purification) was discovered.

I am going to ask this in a couple places……

I have a marketing assignment and thought of a "green kit". You can pick from reusable shopping bags, the water regulators for toilets (etc), incandescent light bulbs, maybe some seeds for planting trees/flowers, baby and cleaning products, info and set up (if interested) for setting up solar power paneling, maybe some recycling bins that break down so you can store them easily (we have to take our recycling to a bin at the end of town….no pick up), notebooks/school supplies made from recycled material…that’s all I thought of so far.

1) would you buy it?
2) would you add anything to the list that you would want to buy?

Thanks all……

As an individual, no I would not buy it. However I can see something like this being marketed to conferences or green businesses looking to do promotions. They could just buy a few hundred kits at a time.

I would add more information to each kit. Things to educate people on the benefits of living green, how to spot fake green products, different how-to’s such as "how to reduce the impact on the planet."

I think including educational material with an kit you put together will have a more resounding impact than just products alone. Perhaps even kits that have specific purposes like reducing your water bill or making recycling easier.

That’s fine. Have your laughs.

Laugh, as you look through at your screen.
My Love’s not lost.
Though, you test my Heart’s child.
You put my Love on your cross.
As my heart-felt poetry, is burnt and tossed.
If i’m an actor, it must be somebody’s comedy.

Don’t act like I’m a charmer.
I believe in Karma.
And I Trust in Love.
I thank you for making mine a bit stronger.
My heart could go on, much longer.
I could run…
instead i pour my feelings.
The Sun will give me healing.
Who cares who likes my solar reference? It’s not a device to me.
The original religion of my ancestors.
Say what you will.
I trust it’s light still.
You can’t dowse flames of true love
Nor kill a pure dove.
Shoot it and put it in it’s grave.
From there, you shall still have it’s Love.
I ascribed poetical beauty;
to one who would do what you would to me?
I guess the flower, had hidden poison.
With a sweet scent, to lure the boys in.
I love your poison, and take it.
Love: i don’t fake it.

i cud cry

thou if this love is a poison,
id recommend u not taken it in,
at first a sweet scent, but the poison will settle in

who labels you a charmer
or an actor
and not realise the true love
as u wud not hurt her,
who ridicules ur emotions
and make ur woos but a comedy,
one devoid of slapstick-humour

a love dat cant be killed
a flame that cant be killed
a pain you feel, can it be healed?

this religion u follow and feel
do hope it leads u to the real
to light ur path
safeguard your right
to reach ur height and rise

cudnt resist the beauty of ur music
took me to a place real and knew
hope this love is worth dying for
for to love its poison and take it it in,…
well u simply remind me of one ROmeo
who did for love give up his life

‘I think you should have been a bit nicer about ‘
are crossed out and that whole letter is in a box and a different font.

My eyes melt, into the black, steamy coffee. This has to be the largest mug I have ever seen. It was a gift to my dad from his sister. Very thick pottery; the color is unique. It has a purple background, and beautiful green cacti. My dad uses it EVERY morning. I try really hard not to spill it. It’s tempting. Tempting to just dump the liquid out of the huge mug, by tossing my arms into the air, and letting drops of burning hot coffee, surround me like rain. Over with this nonsense, I deliver the caffeine to my dad.

“Thanks honey,” he says. I just smile. I told him to stop calling me that. I’m 17, my name’s Nicole, or Nikki. That’s all he can call me. I walk downstairs and into the bathroom. I stare into my eyes; the refection of me. My blue eyes stare back into me, waiting to look at something else. I keep them there, refrain them from looking away. I feel they’re itching to look at something else; my nose, my ear, my lips; anything but a starting contest with themselves. I look away, giving relieve to my pools of blue; my visionary bulbs. I go to my room, and on the computer. www.westfeildshoppingcenter.com; Stores; Tiffany. Hmm, this ring looks pretty. I click on it. Ooh, $90. I can’t afford that.

I open my bottle of root-beer scented lotion and rub it in my hands. I turn the keys in the ignition and floor it, then rock back in my car.

“Niiiice!” I hear from the passenger seat. My best friend, Apple, bobs her head.

“Bite me.” I move the stick shift in place, then try again, and drive out of the lot

“When was the last time you cleaned this car?” she asks, picking up a king-of-hearts playing card, then a pencil that says ‘Diane’s Chiropractic.’

“Uh… eight months ago… ? I say, more a question than an answer.

“Wow, great.”

“Oh, and your car is spotless?”

She sticks her tongue out. “Very mature, Apple.” Just then, I pull up in her driveway.

Her room is now neon green.

“So, how many times have you painted your room in the last two months?”

“Fi— six…? I think.”

“Nice,” I go over to her radio and turn it to 106.1. Gross, I hate this song. 93.3. Ooh, Starstruck. I sit on her beanbag and she sits on her waterbed.

“So, Colie, what do you want for your birthday? Three days away-ay!”

“A new phone; an iPod. Can you afford that?” I challenge her.

“So, a pack ‘a gum and three collectors’ chapsticks?”

“Just like last year.” I smile.

My mom stares at me. “What?” I ask. She smiles, then takes out a little white box, and jerks it in my direction. I look closer, and the little white box has a blue ribbon and a word; a name. The best name I could think of right now. Tiffany. I snatch the box from her fingers and rip the ribbon out of the way, then snap open the box. I gasp. “It’s beautiful.” I say. It’s a silver ring with an aqua-green pendant and gold clasp. “Thank you, so much! This is the best birthday present I’ve ever gotten,” I say, hugging her.

Apple and I go to the flower beds in my backyard, looking at the glistening sound, just feet away.

“Ahh, I love the beach,” Apple and I say, synchronizing. I inhale the salt water scent, then un-expectedly, on Apple’s part, jump up and run in my house, then come out with two swimsuits.

“Let’s go,” I whisper to her. She knows exactly what I mean. We run to the front of my house and on the two skateboards and ride down the street to the cove.

A bon fire; a party; ahh, high school. I see teens huddled around a campfire, laughing. I smell sand and chocolate. I taste salt water in the air. I hear ‘Paper Planes’ in the distance. I feel thin oxygen. Apple and I move over to a log; the log. The sunset is diamonds set in the sky; pink, purple, and a gorgeous blue. The largest star in our solar system shines across the white marshmallow in the upper atmosphere; shining across Seattle to make our days light up, but now, dusk comes, creating the most beautiful part of the day in my view: the sunset.

“Can we capture the sunset and keep it to put in my room?” Apple wishes.

“I hope so. Let’s find out.” I get up and run over to the main building, and so does Apple. I open the door and we go into the bathroom to change into our suits. We change, then get out of the main building and sprint across the grass field and over the sand, into Puget Sound.

“Cold-d-d!” I scream. Apple nods her head, and I hear her teeth chattering. The water is cold, but I go down to my knees, then my waist, then my neck. After a few minutes, it’s not so cold anymore. Almost, kind of… relaxing.

“Okay, why is your bathing suit yellow?” Apple says.

“Because that’s how it was made,” I respond, trying not to be o
