More specifically, why wouldn’t we want a different plan in place? What is the downside of a plan like:
-Converting large commercial vehicles such as buses and semis to run on domestic natural gas
-Converting smaller, lighter vehicles to run on some combination of electric/natural gas/gasoline/whatever else is to come
-Produce electricity using localized sources such as wind, solar, geothermal/hot rock, natural gas, etc
-Produce products like plastics using oil from domestic sources and imported from Mexico, Canada, and the UK
Two respondants say it is too expensive and we have to have nuclear. Any figures to back up those assertions (and please attempt to keep the moronic insults to a minimum)?
For instance, what would be the cost to use existing equipment to drill wells for hot rock energy as opposed to drilling for more oil? What would be the cost difference?
How "astronomically expense" would it be to convert from diesel to natural gas? What leads you to make that assertion?
Which "businesses" don’t have the money for this? If loans were offered to incentivize companies to produce their own electricity, what would be the cost break-down over the life of the company?
I know I could pay a decent chunk of money to convert my house to a renewable source of energy. In the long run it would be financially beneficial to do so, as I could sell the inevitable excess electricity I would produce and I’d never have another electric bill. If I could run my car off electricity, that’d be an added bonus.
Another way to put it, what would be the cost of NOT doing something drastic? Since we’ve passed our peak in oil production and will be on the downside of supply, while demand continues to increase, how expensive will it be to import nearly all of our energy needs? What happens when countries move to nationalize and keep their oil as the supplies dwindle? Should we factor in those costs, or simply look at the costs of building a wind farm and declaring it too expensive?
Obviously nothing can be done "overnight", but something should be done. The ball must start rolling at some point. Our government keeps pumping billions of dollars into inudstries destined for failure (rightfully so, this is capitalism, after all), when it could be spending these funds to create tens of thousands of jobs and set us on a course for success. More jobs that can’t be outsourced. Money staying in our country. Increased tax dollars. Decreased reliance on those who would like to kill us. Decreased funding for terrorism.
The downfall would be less profits for the oil monoploy? They could get it on the future and invest in these technologies, ensuring their own futures.

Add: And why do people seem to say that nuclear is the answer to our problems? I don’t think you can run a vehicle on nuclear energy and we don’t really have that much need for more electric generation. The only thing we need to do with an alternative energy plan is to be smart about it. Put solar where the sun is the strongest and out the most, like the Southwest and not where is doesn’t shine like the Northwest. Use windmills where there is actually wind, offshore and in the interior.

Everytime the screen get’s too bright (I.E During an Macantosh Commercial, or when playing Halo 3 and the solar flares are used) The TV will shut off on It’s own, and the LED power light will flash on and off, and the TV won’t turn on again until I go over, Unplug the TV, and plug it back in. Anyone know how this can be fixed? or do I need a new TV all together?

Most likely you have an over-current condition which causes the power supplies to shut down before they burn out an led or cause damage. This means that there is definitely something wrong with the set; either a bad component on a pc board or a bad power supply.
Suggest you get it looked at by a service tech.
Is the set under warranty still? It may cost nothing or very little in that case.
Try reducing the brightness or the contrast on the set and see if the same fault happens.

This answer from Yahoo! is from FAQ stock replies. I would humbly submit that I am still not convinced by the answer. There is nothing objectionable about a novel suggestion to the people to save electricity and whatever contact details I have given is to make the effort of of people that much easier for implementation of the suggestion U-SEE – it will not be out of place if it is mentioned that a highly respected body like World Bank has honored and if there was anything objectionable or profane etc., as yahoo has contended, then the World Bank would not have touched my subject with a barge pole.
Let me hope that this clarification will enlighten Yahoo and the suggestion is allowed on Suggestion Board.

The factors affecting the rate at which a cricket chirps

For years i’ve been thrilled at the possibility of space travel and future tech, like when i used to watch the jetsons on cartoonnetwork when i was younger. A few years ago I saw a few videos about a man who created a commercial flying car and he is still working with the US government to create a sky highway system so he can release his invention.

I also came across an article and a video, one is about rapid space travel using only solar energy, riding the light. The other just blew me away. It’s a picture of a commercial space plane that had it’s maiden voyage a few months ago. It was made by virgin, but instead it’s not Virgin Atlantic, they changed the name to Virgin GALACTIC.

Incredible. I never thought I’d see this kind of stuff in my lifetime, but i’m only 15 and have my whole life ahead of me. Is anyone else excited?

I think its pretty cool to! As much as I want to, I want things worlds like the Jetsons and Star Wars to be real just cause its cool. Like flying cars, and planes that can do vertical take off. But looking at how far its progressed to get to the point we are now, its gonna take a lot more time for "future" things to become a reality.

All those movies depicting the future at a certain time *cough cough* Back to the Future… show how our expectations are much greater than reality

buts its okay to dream!

The answers can be anything, from laws to politics to religion to morals to technology to geography to weather.

For me, I think it’d be awesome if commercial airlines eventually turned to solar powered. Though fuel would require for takeoff, landing, and night flights, during the day, the world could potentially save thousands of dollars and energy if jets simply became powered through the sun’s light.

This is just me though. What about you? What is one idea that could potentially change the world and its perspective?
