i bought some solar lights toda , put them in garden around 5pm when the sun was out , however its now dark and lights are not on
could this be because they have only had a few hours of sun or is it a fault?

They have not had enough time to charge fully. The lights will need at
least 6 – 8 hours in sunshine the first time to allow a sufficient charge.
We have had some now for 5 years and they work fine. You may
notice a decrease in how long the lights stay on after a couple years.
Cold weather will cause the batteries not to hold a charge so they won’t work in the winter very well. Ours have been outside all along
and come warm weather they light right back up.

So when you go to work or wherever in the morning just sit it in the yard. No one will be the wiser. It will run for 10 hours on a full charge. Would you buy one of these. Also in the works is a clitoral stimulator that will run off of E85.

The ones that have solar panels and and when night time comes they automatically turn on. How do they work? This is for a DIY project I want to try. Also how much power to solar panels generate? What size do solar panels come in? Do they come in the small size that are on solar lights? Also can you buy those solar panels and where?
I’m asking about solar lights it because I want to build a greenhouse for a science project. I need lights shining on the plants 24/7. I saw the solar lights and thought that might be a good concept for lights always shining.
I live in a very sunny part of California so whether there is sun or not is not a problem.

It’s a good concept, the problem is that the light from the solar lights you are talking about is very … what’s the word… weak I guess. I have a few around my place where it wasn’t feasible to run a hardwired light and they’re just barely enough to see where I’m walking. It’s not going to be enough to make the plants think they are in the sunlight 24 hours. You’d need a much stronger lighting system.

I guess it depends what you pay for them, then…We bought some 6 years ago for about £6.00 each…Had to place the rechargeable batteries (2) in them for 48 hours before switching on, so they got charged up in the daylight. They are all with the original batteries, and are still going perfectly. Later we bought some more on a Bogof offer, but these were inferior in as much as they only used one battery each, so the power was not as good, thus the light was weaker. They are still working though, and have not had any problems with them.

We bought solar lights for the front garden and have started to use them around the inside of the house. How would you devise a system that used an outside source that could use these lamps inside coming from the one outside solar source.I don`t want to use a huge solar panel outside as we`re trying to Design something that`s movable(for renters). It doesn`t have to be an all night source and even be wired through the gaps of the doors, with instead of an on/off switch a (male/female adaptor)That you can unplug manually. We just want to use less and teach our kids smarter ways. Thanks for any help and any smart ass answers are more than welcome as long as they have some smart. Thanks guys/gals
Sorry guys,by an outside source i also ment the roof(i didn`t want it on there(renting and movable reasons).I understand that the sun only shines for so long on any given side of the house.

The panels in garden lights are only good for powering 1 LED and not all that brightly either. So I suppose you could get the panels from a dozen lights, put them together in 1 largish panel that could go outside and run a cable through to a few batteries inside you could use to power a dozen LEDs, but why bother?

You’re talking about running cables everywhere for something that isn’t even a suitable source of light. The amount of energy you’d make by doing that for a whole day would be the same as the amount you’d save by turning off a lightbulb for several seconds.
