What kind of lights would be best for a patio umbrella-electric, battery, or solar?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I would love to have one of those patio umbrellas with lights running along the inside ribs. Am not enthused about running an electric cord but wonder how long the batteries would last on a battery operated umbrella. Or would an umbrella with solar operated lights be satisfactory.

go electric. solar too dim, batteries don’t last. I found a good kit that ties to the ribs.

What is a good brand of Solar Lights to light up pathways, and are inexpensive?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Where did you buy yours?
How many came in the package?
How much did you pay?
Why do you like them?
Do your solar lights stay lit well?

It depends on what you consider inexpensive. You can buy them almost anywhere. They usually come at least 6 to a package and cost about $30-$50 but I found mine at a hardware store and got 12 for $20. You have to make sure they have full sun all day or they won’t charge good. Google solar lighting or check out eBay.

Plants! Plant some plants that provide partial shade in the summer, then cover them small decorative buckets in the winter if you have a severe winter where you live.

What are the best kind of solar spot lights to buy?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

The solar spot lights I have now are very dull and don’t last very long. I want ones that can light up a tree and can stay lit for at least 4 hours.

I searched from the Internet about the solar spotlight purchased by my Uncle
for me, which specifications you will find below. It works very nicely for my use:

Integral Solar Spotlight

Three-light solar set with LED lighting
 One day of solar charging powers three LED bulbs
 Spotlights last for up to 10 hours
 Include an automatic on/off sensor
 Saves you money on your electric bill
 Comes complete with ground stakes, bulbs, and a 20 foot cord

Highlight the best features of your garden or yard with this Solar Spotlight Set. After a day’s solar charging, its long-life, rechargeable batteries power three white LEDs, which emit a bright, white light to accentuate your plants or outdoor decor for 8 to 10 hours.

These lights feature a durable polymer construction in an attractive black finish. The three spot lights are connected to an integral solar panel that charges all three lights. They also have an automatic on/off sensor so you don’t have to bother with elaborate timers. This set of hassle-free, energy-efficient lights will also save you a considerable amount on your monthly electricity bills.
